Del viernes 15 al domingo 24 de agosto, el Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad presenta la décima edición del Buenos Aires Festival de Tango. Habrá conciertos, shows y espectáculos gratuitos en varios escenarios porteños. Las entradas pueden retirarse en la Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575, de 11 a 18.

Made on my first weekend there (last weekend of March '08). You often find this on busy Florida street downtown but this one was taken on Plaza San Martin. Of course u can take a cab there but if u wanna do it more as it is done there u can either take the subway to Retiro (Linea C). When u get out of the railway station it's already visible on the right in the distance. Or when u start on Plaza the Mayo u walk passed the Cathedral (the large building with the huge columns) and follow that street until Florida starts on ur right. From the cathedral that's bout 200-300 mtrs. Walk all the way through Retiro. U will cross some major avenues on the way and have to get passed the "muggers'" who try to lure u with tickets and clubs (very annoying). That is a reason why i avoid Florida mostly because they smell ur a tourist :p. At the end of Florida is a little square and when u cross the street u get to the park. And this movie was made just across that street.
Too bad it has no sound.

María Graña was born in Buenos Aires and since her early childhood she had a passion for singing. At age twelve she started to study with the teacher Elvira Aquilano, with whom she studied for seventeen years. In 1970 she appeared at a contest on the television program "Canta el pueblo" on Channel 7. Then she sang "La canción de Buenos Aires" and the board awarded her the first prize.

Finally made it through a side street. This street has typical stores, a lot about Carlos Gardel the tango phenomenon. There is also a statue of him in that street (see picture 2 from internet). Didn't get a picture of my own because there were folks hanging around it and they were not planning to leave. This statue and the building next to it is a popular tourist attraction. I mentioned Carlos in an earlier post. See here.

Say tango and you must say Carlos Gardel in Argentina. One of the most legendary artists of the country. Actually he was born Gardes and not Gardel. He changed his name laterUnfortunately he didn't get a long life. At age 35 he died in a plane collision. Yet his influence was so profound that in 1977 Tango Day was instituted on December 11th. This is the birthday of Carlos Gardel. On this day many pay tribute to his grave and it's tango all over the city on this day. If you like the tango this would be the most excellent time to have your vacation. Besides that it's Spring so the weather is most of the time extremely well.
