Paro nocturno

No hubo heridos.

Tango on Subte

In public transport most of the time you encounter people who try to make a few pesos by selling items, playing music or in this case dancing tango. I've experienced the selling (often children) and the music but the tango i haven't seen. Maybe because as it seems this was on B-line (Red) which also goes through the Tango heart of the city. I barely took that line (maybe once or twice in 2 years). As you can see most folks don't pay attention. If you travel daily by subway or bus there as most people do you get used to this easily. Sometimes also annoyed. But certainly for tourists it's nice. :)

Subte morning rush hour

To get an impression of how busy the subway can be at rush hour see this movie. This is at Catedral station. Catedral is connected to Bolívar station. Together these are connections between Lines A, D and E. This particular station Catedral is the start off point of the green line D. It runs for example past Facultad de Medicina which is the Medical University as well as through Palermo. It's quite a busy line normally.

Avenida Pueyrredón en route to Abasto 4

As you can see subway stations are never far away. And on the other side of entrance they have a map. So if you had no clue where you were at that point it is easy to find.

Avenida Pueyrredón y Plaza Miserere

This is from Avenida Pueyrredón looking towards Avenida Rivadavia. Avenida Pueyrredón is also a main artery of the city (East-West). You can also see on the right the entrance to the subway station Linea A. Linea H which is under construction will also stop here at a 90 degree angle shortening the travel for many passengers in the future. I also put here again the map of the subway system so you can orient a bit where the Plaza is. As you can see it is quite a central place in the city. If you want to read about the Subte (Subway) i made a post last month already. See here.

Subte

Subte or subway is one of the main systems of public transport in the city. You recognize it above ground by the signs as in the picture. Currently there are 5 lines A through E. Each with their own color code. In the picture for example is the line D in green. Other colors are Red (Line B), Light-Blue (line A), Dark-Blue (Line C) and Purple (Line E). Most lines go from East to West. Only line C (at the moment) goes North-South. All lines converge in the East where downtown is. See also the map. Line A (the oldest one) is under construction. An addition is made on the west-side of the line (Primera Junta) further west with some additional stops. This is good for me because we will have a subte station extra near the house. This will be station Flores which will be basically on the center square Plaza Flores. Currently the closest station is Varela on the purple E-line. This is a 10 minute walk from our house.

Line H as displayed is not functional yet and will considerably shorten most trips, especially if you need to go North-South and not all the way to down-town.

A Subte boleta (ticket) costs $ 0,70. this is 70 centavos or about 23 US$ cents. You pay for entering the station until you get out regardless of the distance. Basically you can travel all day on the Subte for 70 cents unless you get out the station. It's even 10 cents cheaper than the colectivo (the bus). Colectivo i will mention in a different post.

Delays on Subte are not common. Sometimes with extreme weather like today it happens. If you travel in rush hour be prepared to stand. I guess this is something that is the case all around the world in major cities.

The carriages are yellow in general and look like this:
