Looking for sun?

While a lot are still buried in snow there are some who watch the sun. It is supposedly a boring time to watch the sun since it's the low point in the 11 year activity cycle of the sun. But there was something to watch with Easter. When Katrina hit in 2005 the sun was supposed to be quiet as well. Coincidence? In August '06 when i read back space.com reported the start of the new cycle. That would make it '11 - '12 for the peak of activity. Hmm, 2012... wasn't that when the Ancient Mayan calender ended? Theories, theories...
