Renault F1 team enters the Second Life game

A matter of time before other teams follow.

"The team announced today that it will become the first F1 team to make a splash in the online virtual world of Second Life...

I know, I know. Down here at Renault, we're always banging on about taking our fans closer to the action... Live telemetry during the race, exclusive - and unique - post-race podcasts, an online blog about life behind the scenes with the boys and girls of the team, live chats and comments from the team garage, webchats with team members... it's already, if you'll excuse the lack of modesty, a pretty cool range of ways to connect with your favourite F1 team!

Well now, we've got something even better: ING Renault F1 Team are going to be the first F1 team on Second Life!

"Second Life?" you may be thinking. "I'm perfectly happy with my first one!" That was my reaction too, until I started looking into it and well, it's actually pretty cool. If you're not familiar with the concept then you can go and take a look at www.secondlife.com to see what this virtual world of nearly 6 million users is all about.

What's exciting about it, from my point of view at least, is how it will allow people to connect and interact with each other - without needing to pay to attend events around the world. Now, if you're Honda, you might even be presenting this as part of a cool environmental strategy, but here at Renault, we prefer to think of it as a way of enabling our fans to meet.

So if you're Fraggle, why not organise a regular meeting between interested bloggers at the back of the team garage after each race? It's the perfect opportunity to meet fellow fans from all over the globe, and a great way to introduce people to what ING Renault F1 Team is all about - being the most fan-accessible team on the F1 grid.

Plans are still under wraps at the moment, but if you want to find out more, click on this link for the press release: A Second Life for ING Renault F1 Team.

And while you are waiting for more news, here's a sneak preview screenshot - and, of course, we want to hear your ideas about what we could feature on Second Life to get you closer to the action with the ING Renault F1 Team! Share your thoughts here on the blog! And don't forget to check out www.secondlife.com to find out what it's all about, and visit this new online virtual world... "
