Jorge Telerman

A little bit about the current mayor of the city. There are going to be elections for mayor here this year. To boldly go I'd say :) How he looks he looks some what similar to a Dutch politician we had who was assassinated 5 years ago: Pim Fortuyn (Image 2).

"Jorge Telerman (born November 29, 1956 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine centre-left politician, currently serving as mayor of Buenos Aires.

Telerman worked as a journalist, and philosophy and semiology teacher at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. As a journalist, he worked in the show of Juan Alberto Badía, where there worked also Marcelo Tinelli, that later became the most popular tv-host in Argentina and owner of media. He was later appointed Argentine ambassador to Cuba, and occupied several positions in the Buenos Aires government until his election as deputy mayor. The last charge he had at the government was of Secretary of Culture.

He became acting mayor during the impeachment of Aníbal Ibarra. Following Ibarra's destitution from office on 07 March 2006, Telerman became the mayor per the city constitution. He will serve for the remainder of Ibarra's term, which expires in 2007. He has set up Corriente Porteña, a party supporting his re-election as mayor in 2007; he is supported by the Socialist Party."
