Buenos Aires History: 1536
The oldest image to be found of the city of Buenos Aires shortly after it's foundation in 1536. It was drawn by Ulrich Schmiedel when he visited with the Spaniard Pedro de Mendoza.
Pedro de Mendoza is the founder of the city of Buenos Aires, and first governor of the Río de la Plata region. He died about a year after this drawing was made in 1537 aboard a ship on the Atlantic Ocean.
Mendoza is also the name of a province and it's main city with the same name. Mendoza is well known around the world as the capital of Argentine vintage wines.
